Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States.

The White Sands webpage starts out with this paragraph, “Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Here, great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert and created the world's largest gypsum dune field. “

could not have said it better myself. And we could not have asked for better weather. It was warm, but rain had recently fallen. The clouds in the sky made for some great photo opportunities. The gypsum sand sure does make for some fun images. It looked a lot like snow. Some folks even had sleds to go down the dunes. All seemed to be having a good time. We were included in that.

We spent a good portion of the day exploring the dunes and photographing the things we saw. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. Hope you enjoy the photos.
