COPS WALK Southwest 2019

 COPS WALK Southwest 2019
We joined over 25 walkers and a multitude of volunteers/supporters in February 2019 to honor law enforcement officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Those who participate in this event are amazing and inspiring to me. This event also marked 225 miles that Joellen has walked in honor of my dad Leroy Dale Brown.
There are always folks that ask me what the COPS Walk Southwest event is about. I have always responded with a somewhat canned answer talking about the COPS organization and what they do to support the survivors. I talk about the fundraising to support events and retreat. All of this is true, but there is so much more. This year my answer is a bit different though.
The COPS Walk SW is about people. It is about the remembering the heroes taken from us much too early. It is about the survivors who walk, volunteer or otherwise participate in the event, to honor and remember those who we have lost. It is about the volunteer and support staff who come out and cheer on the walkers. It is about the family and friends that come out to support the participants. It is about the Mayor, Chief and the Officers who took time out of their days to make all of the participants feel special. It is about the Explorers and Color Guard that honored us all. is about the participants seeing old friends and making new ones. It is about the COPS folks caring enough to support the event and participants. It is about sharing each other’s stories. The COPS Walk Southwest is about people.

I have provided some of the images that were captured during the weekend event. I am also providing information on the awesome sponsors that make this event possible. Over $80,000 was raised for the COPS Hands-on programs through the participants and sponsors. Thank to all!

 COPS WALK Southwest
COPS WALK Southwest 2019 took place in the community of Verrado in Buckeye, AZ. It brought survivors, friends and the law enforcement community together to help fund-raiser for Concerns of Police Survivors' Hands-On Programs.  A physical challenge, emotional high and an opportunity to support C.O.P.S.' Hands-On Programs. This was the first time that the walk was held in Verrado. The community and law enforcement did an incredible job with the event! Thanks to the Buckeye Police Department and other organizations that helped to make this event a success for both days of the walk Thanks to the COPS staff that came out and helped to organize and support this event.
C.O.P.S. Hands-On Programs include peer support and counseling retreats for surviving spouses, parents, siblings, adult children, fiancées and significant others, extended family members and co-workers.  C.O.P.S. C.O.P.S. Arizona

We are committed to honoring the fallen by rebuilding, educating, and supporting law enforcement survivors and agencies with excellence, integrity, and compassion
We are committed to honoring the fallen by rebuilding, educating, and supporting law enforcement survivors and agencies with excellence, integrity, and compassion.

Each year, between one and six Arizona law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. Arizona provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join, for the price paid is already too high.

C.O.P.S. Arizona’s membership is over 300 families; our members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria.

We provide a Police Week Orientation for new surviving family members and co-workers, peer-support, and trial and parole support. We also host annual social events, such as our Summer Picnic and end of year Holiday Party, to bring surviving family members and co-workers together for an enjoyable and fun time.

We know a survivor's level of distress is directly affected by the agency's response to the tragedy. C.O.P.S. Arizona offers training and assistance to law enforcement agencies on how to respond to the tragic loss of a member of the law enforcement profession. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our programs and services are funded by private donations and supporter’s purchase of our state license plate, Families of Fallen Police Officers.

C.O.P.S. Arizona is a state chapter of National C.O.P.S. (C.O.P.S.), which was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members. Today C.O.P.S. nationwide membership is over 30,000 families. Members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria. C.O.P.S. is governed by a National Board of law enforcement survivors. All programs and services are administered by the National Office in Camdenton, Missouri. C.O.P.S. has over 50 Chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level.

Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)

Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives.  There is no membership fee to join C.O.P.S., for the price paid is already too high.

C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members.  Today C.O.P.S. membership is over 47,000 survivors.  Survivors include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria.  C.O.P.S. is governed by a National Board of law enforcement survivors.  All programs and services are administered by the National Office in Camdenton, Missouri.  C.O.P.S. has over 50 Chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level.

C.O.P.S. programs for survivors include the National Police Survivors' Conference held each May during National Police Week, scholarships, peer-support at the national, state, and local levels, "C.O.P.S. Kids" counseling reimbursement program, the "C.O.P.S. Kids" Summer Camp, "C.O.P.S. Teens" Outward Bound experience for young adults, special retreats for spouses, parents, siblings, adult children, extended family, and co-workers, trial and parole support, and other assistance programs.

C.O.P.S. knows that a survivor's level of distress is directly affected by the agency's response to the tragedy.  C.O.P.S., therefore, offers training and assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide on how to respond to the tragic loss of a member of the law enforcement profession.  C.O.P.S. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  C.O.P.S. programs and services are funded by grants and donations.

That was just excellent. Just excellent. The shots were put together in such a way – done in such a way – that we really get a feel for the zeal, enthusiasm and love shared for and at this event. Who wouldn’t want to support you guys if you’re going to see Wonder Woman to boot?!

And that finish line was just as it should have been – with that flag off the end of the crane? Wow.

Thank you so much. We’re all proud of you two. Sigh.
