COPS WALK Southwest 2018

COPS WALK Southwest 2018

We joined over 30 walkers and over 20 volunteers in February 2018 to honor law enforcement officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Those who participate in this event are amazing and inspiring to me. This event also marked 200 miles that Joellen has walked in honor of my father Leroy Dale Brown.

I have provided some of the images I captured during the weekend event. I am also providing information on the awesome sponsors that make this event possible. Over $66,000 was raised for the COPS Hands-on programs through the participants and sponsors. Thank to all!
 COPS WALK Southwest

COPS WALK Southwest 2018 took place in Scottsdale, Arizona from February 9-11, 2018. It brought survivors, friends and the law enforcement community together to help fund-raiser for Concerns of Police Survivors' Hands-On Programs.  A physical challenge, emotional high and an opportunity to support C.O.P.S.' Hands-On Programs

C.O.P.S. Hands-On Programs include peer support and counseling retreats for surviving spouses, parents, siblings, adult children, fiancĂ©es and significant others, extended family members and co-workers.  C.O.P.S. Kids and Teens Programs include Kids Camp and Outward Bound for children of officers who died in the line of duty.

 Streamlight

Streamlight is a strong corporate sponsor of Concerns of Police Survivors and has shown its support since 1999.  In 2017, Streamlight donated over $313,000 to underwrite many C.O.P.S. events.  This donation marks over $1,422,000 given by Streamlight to C.O.P.S. since 1999.

The contributions from Streamlight are used to fund the May 14 C.O.P.S. National Police Survivors’ Conference lunch during National Police Week, C.O.P.S. Capital Campaign, C.O.P.S. Co-Workers for Couples Retreat and C.O.P.S. Co-Workers Retreat.  Streamlight is again, the Gold Sponsor for the 6th Annual COPSWALK Southwest, the Gold Sponsor for the 3rd Annual COPSWALK Midwest in September 2017, and is the Lead Sponsor for the 14th Annual COPSWALK Harpers Ferry in October 2017.  Their generous donation also provides travel assistance to underprivileged survivors to help them get to C.O.P.S.’ Hands-On Programs.

With Streamlight’s dedicated funding, C.O.P.S. can continue its mission of “rebuilding shattered lives.”  C.O.P.S. thanks Streamlight for their unwavering support as proven by their employees’ participation during National Police Week, COPSWALKS, and the National Conference on Law Enforcement Wellness and Trauma.

 Law Enforcement United (LEU)

Law Enforcement United (LEU) made their eighth annual “Road to Hope” 250-mile journey, during National Police Week 2017.  Before presenting C.O.P.S. with $450,000, the bicyclists rode in honor of the law enforcement heroes that died in the line of duty and in support of the survivors.  This donation marks over $1,730,000 given by LEU to C.O.P.S. since 2010.
The contributions from LEU’s ride are used to fund costs for C.O.P.S. Kids Summer Camp, C.O.P.S. Young Adults Camp, C.O.P.S. Outward Bound Experience®, C.O.P.S. Spouses Retreat, C.O.P.S. Siblings Retreat, and other C.O.P.S. Hands-On Programs.  Proceeds from LEU also go to C.O.P.S. National Conference on Law Enforcement Wellness and Trauma, C.O.P.S. Suzie Sawyer Golf Tournament, C.O.P.S. Board/Chapter Training, COPSWALK Southwest, COPSWALK Midwest, and COPSWALK Harpers Ferry.  Their generous donation also helps provide trainings for law enforcement and scholarships/counseling for survivors.

LEU has had volunteers at various C.O.P.S. events including C.O.P.S. Kids Camp, COPSWALKS, and Trainings.  C.O.P.S. is honored to have such wonderful support from LEU.

“Our mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of all law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty and remember the survivors left behind.”

 C.O.P.S. Arizona

We are committed to honoring the fallen by rebuilding, educating, and supporting law enforcement survivors and agencies with excellence, integrity, and compassion
We are committed to honoring the fallen by rebuilding, educating, and supporting law enforcement survivors and agencies with excellence, integrity, and compassion.

Each year, between one and six Arizona law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. C.O.P.S. Arizona provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. There is no membership fee to join, for the price paid is already too high.

C.O.P.S. Arizona’s membership is over 300 families; our members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria.

We provide a Police Week Orientation for new surviving family members and co-workers, peer-support, and trial and parole support. We also host annual social events, such as our Summer Picnic and end of year Holiday Party, to bring surviving family members and co-workers together for an enjoyable and fun time.

We know a survivor's level of distress is directly affected by the agency's response to the tragedy. C.O.P.S. Arizona offers training and assistance to law enforcement agencies on how to respond to the tragic loss of a member of the law enforcement profession. We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our programs and services are funded by private donations and supporter’s purchase of our state license plate, Families of Fallen Police Officers.

C.O.P.S. Arizona is a state chapter of National C.O.P.S. (C.O.P.S.), which was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members. Today C.O.P.S. nationwide membership is over 30,000 families. Members include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria. C.O.P.S. is governed by a National Board of law enforcement survivors. All programs and services are administered by the National Office in Camdenton, Missouri. C.O.P.S. has over 50 Chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level.

Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)

Each year, between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss.  C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives.  There is no membership fee to join C.O.P.S., for the price paid is already too high.

C.O.P.S. was organized in 1984 with 110 individual members.  Today C.O.P.S. membership is over 47,000 survivors.  Survivors include spouses, children, parents, siblings, significant others, and affected co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty according to Federal government criteria.  C.O.P.S. is governed by a National Board of law enforcement survivors.  All programs and services are administered by the National Office in Camdenton, Missouri.  C.O.P.S. has over 50 Chapters nationwide that work with survivors at the grass-roots level.

C.O.P.S. programs for survivors include the National Police Survivors' Conference held each May during National Police Week, scholarships, peer-support at the national, state, and local levels, "C.O.P.S. Kids" counseling reimbursement program, the "C.O.P.S. Kids" Summer Camp, "C.O.P.S. Teens" Outward Bound experience for young adults, special retreats for spouses, parents, siblings, adult children, extended family, and co-workers, trial and parole support, and other assistance programs.

C.O.P.S. knows that a survivor's level of distress is directly affected by the agency's response to the tragedy.  C.O.P.S., therefore, offers training and assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide on how to respond to the tragic loss of a member of the law enforcement profession.  C.O.P.S. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  C.O.P.S. programs and services are funded by grants and donations.
