Capitol Christmas Tree 2009
Arizona's Gift to the United States Capitol is a 85-foot blue spruce from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Taller than a 7-story building, the tree was cut on Saturday, November 7, 2009 and will tour the state of Arizona for 10 days. After the Arizona tour, the Capitol Christmas Tree 2009 will embark upon another tour across the country on its way to Washington, D.C. We made the trek to Reid Park in Tucson on Saturday, November 14, to view the tree. You just never know what friends can get you to do on a Saturday morning! The best way to show my appreciation is to take pictures and then post them on the internet.
The dog and the Forest Service guy must have the same tailor... ;)
There were more folks there than I had figured on. It was cool to see the truck carrying the 85-foot spruce and how they were keeping it watered through the trip. We met some neat folks and talked to several of the folks involved in this historic event.

I just had to share some of the haiku and limericks received on this one. Some folks have way too much time on their hands.
Mighty tree doth lay
in oaken cradle this day
85 feet long.
Root ball o' root ball
keep mighty pine strong and green
Safe from squirrel scat.
Snow is made of lights
on celebratory night
O' Christmas Tree! or
On the truck lay the traveling tree,
Passing thru Arizona for all to see,
From tip to root ball,
It was 85 feet tall,
Came with a squirrel scat free guarantee!! or
The young and the old they have came!
Poodles and Rangers the same
The tree to full view
in lines more than few
Christmas Tree in the park, O' the Fame!! or
Do Not Write on This truck they admonished!
Attendees, they all were astonished.
For spray paint they brung
bright message to hung
and now their good plans were all banished! or
Scat of squirrel lies
At feet of mighty spruce tree
Better thee than me! and finally
Flying squirrel flew
On accounta rancid stew
Rootball, crown…upside down.
Mrs. Brown and I do get up to some nonsense and that's for certain!
Your photos are gorgeous, T.C. The truly capture the essence of the fun and adventure.
Did you send the photo "Stern USFS Agent with Poodle" to the Media Rep? What did she have to say.
I think it's brilliant! Also, waaaay too much time on the old hands. Boy. Howdy!
Ms Media Group CEO was indeed sent a copy of the photo. No work from her as of yet but I imagine she is on the road and busy.
I'm glad you sent the photo. Makes sense that she's traveling and won't get back with you for awhile.
Such a brilliant shot.
